Chile vs Colombia: The champions are one step closer from defending the title
The match started with a high tempo as Chile started dominating from the very first minute of the match and reaped their rewards when a loose headed clearance from Cudardo fell into the feet of Aranguiz who didn’t disappoint and scored a goal in the seventh minute. Colombian team was caught on nerves and just four minutes later Chile again came up with a brilliant goal scored by La Roja who capitalized on the Alexis Sanchez shot’s rebound. Chile was soon settled and did a good job while defending as they didn’t throw a chance for Colombia to capitalize and come back into the game.
Chile show off their title credentials
Well this was not what everybody expected from this match as Chile came as the winners. Everybody thought that this would be a thrilling encounter, but Chile got away with it quite easily. It was a dominative performance form the Chilean team and they showed why they truly deserved the title. The biggest good news for the Colombian team was that one of the most important names in Chile squad was not in the playing 11. The Chilean team didn’t miss Arturo Vidal much as they comfortably cruised to a victory. This wine clearly showed the confidence and temperament in the Chilean squad.
Colombia were unlucky
This was supposed to be a very big night in Colombia, where they had a chance to book their place in the final by beating the same team which they defeat Chile in 2001 to become champions last time. The Colombian team got nervy on the occasion as they conceded two goals early and that too in quick succession. The thing that makes their day even worse was the adverse weather which affected the game for nearly two hours and when the game restarted Colombia couldn’t produce something glorifying because of the poor quality of the pitch.
Jose Peckerman selection dilemma cost Colombia
This was a huge decision for which the Colombian boss was criticized heavily for fielding the inexperienced striker Roger Martinez ahead of the series A sensation Bacca. It was his performance that largely brought down Colombia’s as Cudardo and James Rodriguez were fighting to produce some chances but he was not able to help them. Bacca did come up in the ending minutes of the game and produced some lively performance, but there was not much time for him to change the outcome of the match and for that the Colombian fans will surely be blaming Peckerman.
Chile has tough task ahead
Even though Chile progressed into the finals with ease, but they wouldn’t feel relaxed as the deadly Argentina wait for them at the final who will desperately want to beat Chile after narrowly missing the title to them last time around. This Argentina is not like the old one and his heavily talented with a vast pool of great players combined with the incredible Messi form. Argentina definitely looks like a team to beat at the Copa America and if Chile really wants to have a real chance of winning then they should devise a way to stop the mighty Argentina.
